Unilearn is the University's Virtual Learning Environment and can be found at: unilearn.hud.ac.uk

Log in using your University username (e.g. scomabc) and password to access the modules and resources you are teaching or supporting.

If you are not seeing the modules you expect when you log in to Unilearn or have recently taken over teaching on a module or need any help, assistance or advice regarding the VLE please contact the School Web and VLE Support team for assistance:

iPark

The University provides a Learning Technology portal called iPark which holds how-to guides for staff and students on how to use the various aspects of unilearn. If you are struggling with using blogs, wikis or any other features enabled on your module you may find help here.

Cancelling/rearranging timetabled sessions

When the campus is closed, or when colleagues are physically unable to reach campus because of severe weather, they should replace the class with online resources/activities wherever this is possible.  Further guidance regarding alternative options using online technologies is available on the iPark: ipark.hud.ac.uk/content/winter-options

Where the available online technologies are not a feasible option, staff would be expected to reschedule the class. Decisions on any changes to scheduled classes should be made as early as possible, and communicated to students to prevent any unnecessary journeys into campus.  (Ref. QSAG June 2013)

How changes are communicated to students

Decisions to cancel or reschedule a timetabled session should be communicated to students via email by the Student Support Office and also via UniLearn Announcements, with the option to also email students selected. The communication should always make clear which classes it applies to. 

If you are not in a position to post an announcement on Unilearn yourself, please email the module code, the times/dates of any affected sessions and your message to the School Web and VLE Support Team who will be pleased to post the announcement on your behalf.
