Study Skills Tutor

You will probably find that University study differs in many ways from any studying you’ve done before. The study skills tutors are here to help you develop the skills you need to succeed whatever challenges you face throughout your course, whether you are on a Foundation on PhD degree.

Hugh Peters is the Study Skills and Technical English Tutor for the School and students can make appointments with him for assistance with a variety of academic skills areas including:

• Organisation and time management
• Exam preparation
• Referencing
• Academic report / dissertation / lab report writing
• Technical English
• Maths and electromechanical systems
• Presentation and Research skills
• Critical thinking
• Understanding assessment criteria

In addition, Hugh can arrange to discuss academic skills issues with small groups of students (up to four).

Hugh is part of the Guidance Team, based in room SJ1/07 Spärck Jones Building. You can book an appointment via the Student Support Office in SJ1/01 All students are welcome to use this service.
