Some of the software routinely used in the labs in also accessible via "unidesktop" or it can be installed on your own devices
UniDesktop is a service that enables you to use a range of University software on your own desktop, laptop, tablet or other networked device. You will need to install the Quest vWorkspace software first; instructions can be found in the link above.
When you log in to unidesktop you may notice some computer icons on the left side of the page. One of the icons gives you a personal virtual desktop (including Office) which is accessible at any time . Other icons allow you to remotely connect to lab PC's and use some of our specialised software when the buildings are closed
Remote lab access only works after 9:30PM and before 7:00AM during the week or from 9:30PM on Friday until 7:00AM on Monday over the weekends. You can choose which room to log in to but not which PC and some software may not run as well as if you were sat directly at the computer.
The School is able to offer students access to software via our Microsoft Dreamspark Premium subscription
NB: Microsoft Office is not available from Dreamspark but it is available via your Office 365 email account. You can use the Office 365 apps online or download them to your mobile devices or home computer. You also get 1Tb of storage space from One Drive
Students can join the Autodesk Student Community and download educational copies of many of their products. Read the small print carefully when you sign up; educational copies will have some usage restrictions. They may also be different to the version we have installed in the lab
Engineering students can access the following specialised engineering software from computers in CE404.
Log in and look for D:\student software. You need to copy the whole folder for the product you need. Installation instructions should be in each folder. Files may exceed 4Gb so take a suitable storage drive with you.
